sospirare

Today’s Parola del Giorno is the intransitive verb, sospirare, which means to sigh.  Even though sospirare is an intransitive verb, it takes avere in compound tenses; the past participle is sospirato.  See the verb used below in its context:

So che mia madre è arrabbiata quando sospira, fa una pausa, sospira di nuovo e comincia a sgridarmi!  Beh… non sempre grida ma i suoi sospiri non sono un bel segnale!

I know my mom is angry when she sighs, pauses, sighs again and then starts to scold me.  Well…she doesn’t always yell, but her sighs are not a good sign!
