isolare

Today’s Parola del Giorno is the transitive verb, isolare, which means to isolate.  The past participle is isolato, and avere is used in compound tenses.  See the verb used below in its context:

Marie Curie e suo marito hanno vinto il premio Nobel per la chimica nel 1911 per aver scoperto come isolare il radio puro.

Marie Curie and her husband won the Nobel Prize in chemistry in 1911 for having discovered how to isolate pure radium.
