gettare

Today’s Parola del Giorno is the transitive verb, gettare, which means to throw away.  Avere is used in compound tenses; gettato is the past participle.  See the verb used below in its context:

Andavo di fretta e mi sono distratto così ho inavvertitamente gettato il biglietto su cui ho scritto il numero di quella bella ragazza che ho conosciuto ieri alla festa di Gino.  L’ho  persino cercato nel cestino ma non sono riuscito a trovarlo.

I was in a rush and distracted, so I inadvertently threw away the slip of paper that I wrote the phone number for that girl I met at Gino’s party yesterday. I even looked for it in the trash can, but I couldn’t find it.
