mangiucchiare

Today’s Parola del Giorno is the transitive verb, mangiucchiare, which means to nibble at. Note the placement of the stress when the verb is conjugated: mangiucchio, mangiucchi, mangiucchia, etc.  The past participle mangiucchiato; avere is used in compound tenses.  See the verb used below in its context:

Sembra che a Tara non piaccia mangiare. Ogni volta che ceniamo fuori, mangiucchia un po’ di tutto ma non finisce mai il suo piatto.

It seems that Tara doesn’t like to eat. Every time we eat out, she nibbles at a bit of everything but never finishes her plate.
