aspettare una manna dal cielo

Today’s Parola del Giorno is the expression, aspettare una manna dal cielo, which means to wait for things to fall in one’s lap.  Literally, it means to wait for a blessing from heaven.  See the expression used below in its context:

Guarda che nella vita bisogna darsi da fare! Non puoi stare qui a non fare niente aspettando una manna dal cielo. Se non hai un lavoro devi quantomeno provare a cercartelo!

Look, in life one needs to get cracking!  You can’t always be here doing nothing, waiting for things to fall into your lap.  If you don’t have a job, you have to at least try to look for it.
