andare a naso

Today’s Parola del Giorno is the expression, andare a naso, which means to follow one’s nose, which means to be guided by one’s instinct.  See the expression used below in its context:

Quando ho fatto il test di letteratura c’erano tre domande a risposta multipla e non sapevo quale scegliere. Così sono andato a naso e ho barrato quella che mi sembrava meno assurda rispetto alle altre.

When I took the literature test, there were three multiple choice questions, and I didn’t know which to choose.  So I followed my nose and checked off what seemed to me to be the least absurd response of the three.
