la caparra

Today’s Parola del Giorno is the noun, la caparra, which means down payment or deposit. Deposits are often paid at hotels, hostels as well as for apartments and rental homes, too. See the noun used below in its context:

Non mi piace pagare per intero prima di arrivare all’albergo. Preferisco versare una caparra nel caso succede qualcosa e non possa più partire.

I don’t like to pay in full before arriving at the hotel. I prefer to put down a deposit in case something happens, and I cannot go anymore.
