sgocciolare

Today’s Parola del Giorno is the intransitive verb, sgocciolare, which means to drip. This expression is often used with the verb, fare, in the expression, fare sgocciolare i piatti, which means to leave the dishes to dry or to let the dishes dry. Avere is used in compound tenses. The past participle is sgocciolato. See the verb used below in its context:

Marco: Maria, il rubinetto del lavabo della cucina sgocciola sempre.
Maria: Domani mattina telefono all’idraulico.

Marco: Maria, the kitchen sink faucet always leaks.
Maria: Tomorrow morning I will call the plumber.
