sfinire

Today’s Parola del Giorno is the verb, sfinire, which can mean to exhaust, to wear out or to tire out.  Used reflexively (sfinirsi), it can mean to be exhausted or to be warn out.  Note that it is conjugated like the verb, finire: sfinisco, sfinisci, sfinisce, … sfiniscono. See the verb used below in its context:

Oggi in aula la lezione mi sfiniva proprio!  La discussione del professore non mi interessava molto e ho dovuto sfozarmi a stare attento.

Today in class the lesson really wore me out!  The professor’s discussion didn’t interest me much, and I had to force myself to pay attention.

This job really pisses me off: I work 12-13 hours a day, and I am always worn out and never have energy to do a damn thing!  I get home, and often I don’t eat and go right to bed!
