la vecchiaia

Today’s Parola del Giorno is the noun, la vecchiaia, which means old age. See the noun used below in its context:

I miei amici mi prendono sempre per il culo perché mi dimentico sempre le cose importanti: compleanni, anniversari, comprare qualcosa al supermercato. E rispondo sempre che è colpa della vecchiaia — non ho più 19 anni!

My friends always tease me because I always forget important things: birthdays, anniversaries and buying something at the supermarket. And I always respond that old age is to blame: I am not 19 years old anymore!

Ciao a tutti! Yesterday, the link to donate within the email wasn’t working! I will try to fix it, but, in the meantime, please go to and click on the “Donate” link at the top of the page or on the sidebar. All payments will be processed by PayPal.  Some users dislike PayPal and have asked if they can send a check.  Please send us an email if you prefer this option (this is only possible for users in the United States).

What happens to the money if the goal is not reached?
If the goal is not reached by July 1st, I will refund all donations!
Initially, I wrote that I wanted to raise $2500.00 (two thousand five hundred dollars) in three months. Unfortunately, I have to do it in two months because refunds through PayPal must be applied within sixty days from their receipt.  The deadline is effectively July 3rd. I know we can reach our goal and that it can be done.

As I wrote yesterday, if each user and visitor donated just $1.00, we would get there in one day. I know that the site is popular because the traffic is constantly growing, and I consistently receive feedback each week from visitors to the site who enjoy it.

Will there be an Android app?

If the goal is reached, there will be an Android version of the app.

Will Parola del Giorno go away?

If the goal is not reached, there is the possibility that Parola del Giorno will close down. I love the site and sharing my love of Italian language and culture with all of you and would like to keep the site active. Other options are to restrict the service to one that would require an annual subscription fee or close down the web page and deliver content to Kindles and other mobile devices. The easiest option for all is to keep the site free and available to everyone since I know that many users do not use mobile devices. Our email subscription and blog are the most popular delivery methods.

Please take a moment and go to and make a donation! Grazie mille! 🙂
