statunitense

Ciao a tutti! Our Parola del Giorno is going to start on Tuesday (today) instead of Monday. I had to go out of town yesterday so it was pretty hectic. I thought a good theme for this week would be to study words about the Fourth of July! My Italian friends often ask me about American holidays, and so I think it is always good to improve your vocabulary and learn Italian words and expressions that relate to Independence Day in the United States.

Today’s Parola del Giorno is the adjective statunitense, which means American or United States. It can also be used as a noun to refer to a person (man or woman) who is a citizen of the United States. While in conversation you are more likely to use and hear americano, this adjective crops up a lot in writing (such as newspaper and magazine articles).

All’età di cinque anni, Marta sapeva cantare l’inno statunitense in inglese! Le sono sempre piaciuti molto gli inni nazionali.

At the age of five, Marta knew how to sing the American anthem in English! She has always liked national anthems a lot.
