fare shopping

Today’s Parola del Giorno is the expression fare shopping, which means to go shopping. Don’t confuse fare shopping with fare la spesa: the first expression is reserved for pleasure shopping, such as a new pair of shoes, clothes, a tablet while the second expression is used for buying groceries, cleaning supplies and other everyday items.

See the expression used below:

Carla ama fare shopping: questo mese ha già speso metà stipendio in vestiti e scarpe. Non le farebbe male imparare a risparmiare un po’.

Carla loves shopping: this month she has already spent half of her pay on clothes and shoes. It might not be a bad thing if she learned to save a bit.
