avere le mani di pasta frolla

Today’s Parola del Giorno is the delicious expression avere le mani di pasta frolla, which means to have butterfingers. It refers to a person who is always dropping things and cannot seem to keep anything in their hands!

La pasta frolla is short pastry is often used in the making of crostate (tarts) and other Italian desserts. It would also be something used to make pies in the United States, like an apple pie with a pie crust on top and bottom. It is made with butter, flour, sugar, and a few other ingredients.

I did not have a photo of pasta frolla, but you can see the a picture of it here and here on Flickr! More importantly, if you want to learn how to make your own pasta frolla, check out this recipe in Italian!

See the expression used below:

Monica era felice quando ha cominciato quel lavoro al museo perché aveva studiato storia dell’arte all’università. Purtroppo, però, ha le mani di pasta frolla e ha fatto cadere un vaso dal valore inestimabile. Teme che possano licenziarla per questo motivo.

Monica was happy when she started that job at the museum because she had studied art history at university. But she unfortunately has butterfingers and dropped a priceless vase. She is afraid they will fire her for this.
